Hotel Near Fortis Escorts Hospital, Jaipur — A Guide for Patient Attendants

If a family member has been admitted to Fortis Escorts Hospital on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, you are probably reading this from a hospital corridor, deciding where to sleep tonight. This page is written for that moment. It covers the things attendants actually ask us — how far the walk really is, what the visiting hours are, roughly how many nights each procedure needs, and what paperwork to keep in your bag — and then, at the end, what we charge.

Royal City Guest House is at 8/270 Jawahar Circle, behind Union Bank, Malviya Nagar. Fortis Escorts is about 550 metres away, a 7-minute walk. We have put up patient families for years, most of them cardiac cases, and the practical notes below come from them rather than from a brochure.

First, make sure it is the right hospital

This trips up more families than anything else on this page, so it goes first.

Fortis Escorts Hospital and Eternal Hospital (EHCC) are two different hospitals. Both are cardiac centres. Both sit near Jawahar Circle. Both carry the 302017 pin code. And they are in different directions from us:

The walk, described honestly

From our gate to the Fortis Escorts entrance is roughly 550 metres, about 7 minutes at a normal pace on Google Maps. We want to be plain about that number, because a lot of listings in this area round distances down and families discover the truth at 2 AM with a tired parent in tow.

Seven minutes is an easy walk if you are fit and travelling light. It is a different thing at 5:30 AM in December, or in May afternoon heat, or when you have been awake for thirty hours. Plan for it honestly:

• By day it is a straightforward walk along made-up roads with shops and people about.
• At night the stretch is quiet but not isolated, and our front desk is awake if you would rather someone knew you were walking back.
• If someone cannot walk it — an elderly parent, a post-operative patient on discharge day, or you carrying luggage — an auto is about 3 minutes and roughly ₹30–40. On discharge day, take the auto. It is not the moment to save thirty rupees.

The practical value of being this close is not the walk itself. It is that you can come back between visiting windows, sleep properly for three hours, shower, and go again — instead of sitting upright in a waiting-area chair for a week because going "home" means a cab across the city.

Visiting hours and attendant rules

Fortis hospitals generally run evening visiting for general wards, around 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with separate, shorter ICU windows — commonly around midday and again in the late afternoon. Visitor passes are issued at the time of admission and you are expected to wear them inside. Children under 12 are usually not permitted on patient floors, and hand sanitising before and after a visit is compulsory.

Two things worth knowing in advance:

• One attendant is normally allowed without an extra charge. For ICU patients, one family member is generally permitted to wait in the designated waiting area rather than at the bedside.
• The waiting area is for waiting, not for living. Families often plan to "manage" in the corridor for a bypass recovery and give up by night three. If the stay is going to run into a week, book a room from the start — it is cheaper than the toll a week of no sleep takes on the person who has to sign consent forms and talk to doctors.

Fortis Escorts Jaipur is a 275-bed tertiary hospital, opened in 2008, and was the region's first NABH-accredited multi-super-speciality hospital. Its blood bank is NABH-accredited and runs 24 hours, and it has dedicated cardiac, neuro, paediatric and Level III neonatal ICUs. If you are told to arrange blood, ask the ward or the blood bank desk directly about donor-replacement rules — they vary case by case.

How many nights to book, by procedure

The single most useful thing we can tell an arriving family is roughly how long they will be here, because it changes what you pack and what you pay. The table below reflects common patterns for cardiac work at hospitals of this type.

For bypass and valve cases, plan beyond discharge. Many outstation families are advised to stay in Jaipur for another one to two weeks after the patient leaves the ward, for the first follow-up and suture check, before making a long road or train journey home. Families from Kota, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Sikar and Alwar routinely do this.

Book a few nights, then extend. We do not charge anything to extend a stay when a room is free, and it is far less stressful than booking two weeks up front and trying to claim a refund if the surgery date moves — which it often does.

Schemes, insurance and paperwork

Cardiac treatment is expensive and most Rajasthan families are using a scheme or a policy rather than paying cash. Sorting the paperwork on day one, before surgery is scheduled, avoids the worst version of this — a discharge held up because a document is sitting at home in another district.

Mukhyamantri Ayushman Arogya Yojana (formerly Chiranjeevi)

Rajasthan's state health cover was renamed from Chiranjeevi Swasthya Bima Yojana to Mukhyamantri Ayushman Arogya Yojana in February 2024, and provides cashless cover of up to ₹25 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary treatment. Most families still call it "the Chiranjeevi card" and so do many hospital staff — both names refer to the same scheme.

RGHS

If the patient is a serving or retired Rajasthan government employee, RGHS (Rajasthan Government Health Scheme) is the relevant route rather than the state scheme above. Carry the RGHS card or number along with the employee/pension ID.

Private insurance and TPA

For a private policy, the hospital's insurance/TPA desk handles pre-authorisation. Cashless approval usually needs to be started before a planned procedure, not after. For an emergency admission, inform the insurer within the window your policy specifies — commonly 24 hours.

Keep these in one folder from day one:

• Patient's Aadhaar and the attendant's Aadhaar
• Jan Aadhaar card (needed for the state scheme)
• Scheme or policy card — Ayushman/Chiranjeevi, RGHS, or the insurer's card with policy number
• All previous prescriptions, discharge summaries, angiography CDs and reports — bring the old ones, not just the recent ones
• Referral letter, if you were referred from a district hospital
• Cash or a working UPI app for pharmacy and canteen, which are not always covered

What to keep in the attendant bag

Attendants routinely arrive with everything the patient needs and nothing for themselves. After a few days that becomes its own problem. The list below is what our long-staying guests say they wish they had brought:

• A power bank and a long charging cable. Hospital sockets are never near the chair.
• A light shawl or blanket. Waiting areas are air-conditioned and cold at night.
• Slip-on footwear. You will take shoes on and off more than you expect.
• Your own medicines — BP, sugar, thyroid. Attendants skip their own doses for a week and then fall ill themselves.
• A notebook and pen. Doctors round quickly. Write down names, doses and the next step while they are still in the room.
• A cloth bag for reports. The file grows fast.
• Cash in small notes for autos, chai and parking.

Laundry is the quiet problem on a two-week stay. We run a laundry service, which is worth knowing if you left home expecting to be back in three days — as most bypass families do.

Food, and eating at odd hours

Hospital canteens close, and attendants eat whenever a gap appears rather than at mealtimes. Our restaurant is on the property and serves plain home-style Indian food — dal, roti, rice, khichdi. Breakfast is from about ₹80 and a dal-rice plate from about ₹120. Room service is available on request.

Two things that matter specifically for cardiac families:

• Light, low-oil, low-salt food on request. Post-operative patients are usually put on a restricted diet, and discharged patients often cannot eat ordinary restaurant food for weeks. Tell the kitchen it is for a heart patient and they will make it plain — no tadka, no chilli, minimal salt.
• You can eat at 11 PM or 6 AM. The kitchen is not a 24-hour operation, but the front desk is, and a family coming back from a night in the ICU waiting room can get something simple arranged rather than going to bed on an empty stomach.

Our rooms and rates

• Standard Room — from ₹999/night. Double bed, AC, private bathroom with 24-hour hot water, flat-screen TV, free WiFi. Right for a single attendant.
• Deluxe Room — from ₹1,199/night. Larger, with a private balcony; some face Patrika Gate. Worth it on a long stay when the room becomes the place you actually live.
• Family Room — from ₹1,399/night. Multiple beds, for two relatives taking shifts at the hospital, or a family travelling with a child.

All rates include taxes, WiFi and daily housekeeping. There is free parking on site with EV charging, a garden, power backup and a 24-hour front desk. Walk-in guests are welcome subject to availability, and no advance payment is required to hold a room for a hospital admission.

The medical stay rate applies from the fourth night. Say it is a hospital stay when you call — the discount is not applied automatically by a booking site, and direct booking is always cheaper here than an OTA.

Reaching Fortis from the station or airport

If you are arriving from out of town for a scheduled admission, the useful trick is to come the evening before rather than the morning of. Admissions start early, the paperwork takes longer than anyone tells you, and arriving off an overnight bus to sit through it is a poor start to a difficult week.
