The Jaipur Literature Festival is the largest free literary gathering in the world, and its 2027 edition — the 20th — runs from 14 to 18 January 2027 at Hotel Clarks Amer on JLN Marg, Malviya Nagar. Around 300 speakers, dozens of front lawns and courtyard sessions, and a crowd that fills Clarks Amer's grounds from morning readings to evening music make it one of the few weeks a year when finding a room in south Jaipur gets genuinely competitive.
Most visitors default to booking inside Clarks Amer itself, assuming it is the only option close to the sessions. It isn't. Clarks Amer is a five-star property, and during festival week its own rooms are priced and booked accordingly — often out well before the season, and at rates that make a five-day literary weekend cost as much as the flights. Its actual advantage over a nearby budget stay is the walk from your room to the front-lawn sessions, and that walk is available from Royal City Guest House too, just a few minutes longer.
The trade-off works in your favour: the same JLN Marg location, a fraction of the room rate, and a neighbourhood — Malviya Nagar — that has chemists, ATMs, restaurants and a metro-adjacent feel rather than being a self-contained hotel campus. Patrika Gate and Jawahar Circle Garden, both worth an evening walk after the day's sessions end, are two minutes from the guest house door.

Sessions typically run through the day across multiple stages, so most attendees are in and out of the venue repeatedly rather than sitting through one long block. Being an 8-minute walk away means you can come back to the room between sessions, drop bags, charge a phone or just sit down somewhere quieter than a festival lawn, and be back for the next slot without losing half an hour to traffic.
JLF runs five days, and most serious attendees stay for at least three. Book from the evening before your first session so you are not arriving tired and going straight into a full day, and consider staying through the closing evening rather than rushing to catch transport on the last afternoon and missing the final sessions.
General festival entry has historically been free, which is exactly why accommodation near the venue is the harder booking, not the festival ticket itself. Crowds build through the weekend and around headline sessions, so plan to arrive at popular venues 20–30 minutes early, and keep your room close enough that a change of plan — skipping a session, heading back for food, waiting out a delay — doesn't cost you the rest of the day.
Festival lawns are wonderful and exhausting in equal measure — queues, crowds, standing through long sessions. Our lane at Jawahar Circle is set back from the main road. Rooms are AC with private bathroom, hot water, TV, daily housekeeping and free WiFi, useful if you're filing notes or catching up on the sessions you missed via livestream.
If you're travelling with friends or family for the festival, family rooms with multiple beds start from ₹1,399, and standard rooms are ₹999 each.
